chile.bind Using Mesilla Valley chiles to create a woven tapestry, this project not only showcased a locally sourced good of the region, but it also borrowed from artisan techniques used to make a Southwestern artifact called ristras. In collaboration with UTEP art students, Cassandra Davisson, Laura Hayes and Isabella Hern‡ndez, we repurposed the chiles as a form of social fabric that contributed to the aesthetics and functionality of Bio.domo.sis. The public was invited to participate in the making of chile.bind.
Chile.bind is made from jute, hemp, and banana wax chiles from Ristramann Chile Co. 2531 Avenida de Mesilla (575)526-8667.
